A career as a Registered Lead Traffic Management Operative (RLTMO)

Registered Lead Traffic Management Operatives (RLTMOs) oversee RTMO staff that install, maintain and remove temporary traffic management equipment on rural and urban roads. They will be involved in ensuring that equipment and signs are installed and removed correctly by the team, whilst ensuring compliance with company policies and the National Highways Sector Scheme (NHSS).

Skills/Knowledge

You'll need:

  • experience in traffic management operations

  • to enjoy working as part of a team and able to direct the work of others

  • patience and to remain calm in stressful situations

  • to accept criticism and work well under pressure

  • to be proactive and organised

  • have a good attention to detail

  • have good communication skills

  • to undertake relevant training and development

  • a strong commitment to health and safety for the team and the public

You will need a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card to work onsite. Most roles relating to Highways and Roads require a full driving licence.

Salary

NB These figures are only a guide, as actual rates of pay may vary depending on the employer and the skills and experience of the employee.

Please note, this role is not seen in the Irish Highways system.

Typical Hours

38-40 hours per week. Most roles involve unsocial hours, including evenings, nights and weekends, overtime, and to be an on-call rota.

Day to Day
  • Oversee sites and staff that install, maintain and remove temporary traffic management and control systems

  • Check returned traffic management equipment and complete relevant supporting documentation

  • Maintain traffic equipment and carrying out repairs

  • Undertake traffic counts, calls to clients and sub-contractors

  • Support the development and delivery of works programme

  • Help and guide new trainees

  • Work collaborative with health and safety team and promote best practice on site

Working Environment

You will be working outdoors in all weather conditions. The work can be physically demanding, dirty and noisy, and may be challenging, particularly during the winter months.

You will need to wear protective clothing (PPE) which will be provided.
